‘Forgetfulness of your true nature is real death; remembrance of it is rebirth’

Rebirth can mean a number of things form reinvention, a change of heart or a literal death and rising
again. Eckhart Tolle in the Power of Now says, “die before you die—and find that there is no death.”
Whether it’s a literal or metaphorical rebirth for a character, it signifies a momentous occasion in their
life and a moment of great change and development.
Re-birth can sound so majestic, so beautiful. It can signify a time of starting fresh, of being conjured
anew, of creating a blank page for the future. Flowers are born anew each spring, butterflies born from
their cocoons.
That being said, it is important to know that re-birth does not always occur as the delicate unfolding of
blossoming petals. Sometimes, it entails the unnerving shriek of the phoenix consumed by the flames.
Sometimes, it’s the pressure from the heat that turns coal into diamonds.
Last month we discussed the inevitability of change and how we can either be active or reactive about it.
We now know that until we break away from the way we see reality, any change in our lives will always
be haphazard and transitory. We also said that for a true rebirth of our being we need to ‘unlearn’ our
thinking about how things happen in order to produce enduring and desired outcomes. This definitely
sounds much easier said than done. What does it really mean to change our beliefs of the nature of
reality?
According to Dr. Joe Dispenza, as human beings we live in a constant state of flight or fight mode due to
stress. Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding
circumstances. Stress is caused when we cannot predict a future outcome, we feel we cannot control a
certain situation or when we feel that there is a threat or danger or a perception that something is going to
get worse in our lives. This knocks us out of homeostasis and puts us in a state of imbalance. What is
interesting is that we actually have the ability to turn on the fight or flight mode response by thought
alone. And that thought doesn’t even have to be about anything in our present circumstances. In fact, in
most cases we either anticipate stress-response-producing experiences or we recollect them turning short
term stressful situations into long-term ones. So as humans we experience stress, re-experience and pre-
experience it by thought alone. And so if we are putting the bulk of our energy toward some issue in our
external environment, there will be little left for our body’s internal environment. The stress hormone that
get triggered in situations like these forces us to focus on the body, environment and time. We either do
not look the way we want to look or fear that our looks would fade (body), we are unable to control
everything around us in our environment (environment) or we don’t have time to do everything we want
to do (time). By doing that, we are simply focusing on the 0.00001% matter instead of 99.99999% reality.
We slip into the Newtonian mode of thinking which locks into trying to predict the future based on some
past experience and it ties us into a particular line of linear time. It is true, we may not be able to control
everything that happens in our lives, however, is it possible that we can control our inner world of
thoughts and feelings?
‘If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what
you truly want, and all that is left is compromise. The way to activate the seeds of your creation is by
making choices about the results you want to create.’

~ Robert Fritz

So how do we do that, you ask? Simple, in order for you to change any aspect of your life (body,
environment, or time) you must transcend it! You need to situate yourself in a state of flow, in a creative
state, in which you lose being you. For any rebirth to happen, you need to lay down your selfish ego and
become self-less. Here are 3 simple steps to follow:

  1. Become more self-aware – remember the ‘balcony moments’ in coaching? Now you know why
you paid so much for this course  Self-reflection allows us to scrutinize ourselves and then
make a plan to modify our behaviors so we can produce more enlightened or desirable outcome.
Given that your personality is made up of your thoughts, actions and feelings, you need to pay
more attention to your unconscious thoughts, reflexive behaviors and automatic emotional
reactions to determine whether you want to continue to endorse them with your energy.
  2. Set aside some private space to think about your new way of being engaging your frontal lobe in
your creation. Ask yourself open ended inquiries (powerful questions – coaching again) like:
what would be like to..? What is a better way to be..? What if I was this person, living in this
reality? By doing that, your frontal lobe will assimilate information, choose knowledge and
experiences and combine them in a new way to create a new mind; eventually creating a model or
an internal representation as the intended result.
  3. Become one with the thoughts and feelings associated with your desired reality. In so doing, your
former identity, the ‘state of being’ bound by survival-based thinking and feeling, is no more.
Since we are no longer ‘being’ the same being, emotional energy that had been bound to the body
    is now free to move.
All these practices and many more are means to an end. All of them can only be effective if they are
conjured up by will, intention and heightened awareness.
